An hour drive from Prague southeast towards green Highlands bordering Bohemia and Moravia will take you to an open air museum of life on a Czech village in the past, vernacular culture and architecture in Kouřim, the only museum in the CR focusing on various ethographic regions of the country. The exhibition offers uniquely preserved rural buildings, objects of everyday life of our ancestors and presents living and long-forgotten traditions of the Czech ethnic group.
Later in the day we will continue another half an hour towards one of the oldest dwelling of old Czech Aristocracy, fairytale castle Český Šternberk. We will visit richly furnished interiors of the castle which has been owned by the same family for 20 generations. We can not avoid having lunch in restaurant below the Castle during our ancestry journey through the Czech countryside.
A walk through old Czech village and rural museum
After picking you up at the hotel/ apartment of your stay in Prague, we will drive less than an hour southwest towards one of the oldest Czech royal cities, Kouřim. There we will walk through the exposition of the Czech village museum and rural architecture. For those who have their ancestors from Bohemia, this tour will be interesting in terms of understanding the way of life their ancestors led. You will see and learn what they ate, what objects they used, and what traditions they maintained during the year.
Czech nobility and their settlements
An integral part of Czech history is the nobility, which for centuries owned most of Bohemia and built larger and smaller settlements in the Czech landscape, which today we can still admire and learn about our national history. Český Šternberk Castle is one of them and offers a view of the living rooms of the aristocratic Šternberk family, acquaints with the fates of its members to the present day, because the castle is still in the family's possession.
Lunch at a local restaurant
When wandering through Czech history, we will not forget the pleasure of our senses and have lunch in a local restaurant directly below the castle, famous for its traditional Czech cuisine. After a good lunch we will set off on an hour's journey back to Prague.
